Now when we typically refer to cool here in coastal Georgia, we are talking about temperatures somewhere in the 40’s. But subfreezing? Now that’s cold! For the next 3 nights, we are expecting temperatures to dip down into the 20’s. Thank heavens our daytime temperatures will warm up to about 50 or so. I know, I know. Please stop laughing. Truly, my heart goes out to all of you who live north and west of us. I know some of you have not seen temperatures as high as the 20’s in weeks. But freezing is not normal for coastal Georgia—so we bring in what plants we can and cover the herb and winter vegetable garden with old sheets. Enough about our winter weather—let’s get to the food—because this breakfast is sure to melt your winter blues no matter where you live. Add a fun, tropical touch to your tablescape as well, and you’ll be on your way to a mini-vacation in a warmer climate!

I loved every minute of the trip to the Georgia Coast, and The Golden Isles was definitely a highlight. What a beautiful area it is! We thoroughly enjoyed our time there - had a good dolphin watch cruise and then went to the Jekyll Wharf in the evening, listened to music and ate outdoors. Beryl Tadgell, Ariel Travel

Savannah is the most beautiful place I have ever seen in The United States. On a trip to Florida, my father, brother and I decided to stop in Savannah on the way to Florida. I had never been there and when we arrived, I was spellbound by the absolute beauty of it. Virtual Tourist User

Sapelo Island
Visitors to Sapelo Island can see virtually every facet of a barrier island's natural community, from the forested uplands, to the vast salt marsh, and the complex beach and dunes systems. The mainland Visitor Center brings to life both the natural and cultural history of Sapelo, while guided island tours highlight the African-American community of Hog Hammock, University of Georgia Marine Institute, the Reynolds Mansion and a working lighthouse. Built in 1820, the lighthouse was in service until 1905 when it was deactivated. Following its 1998 restoration, it once again became a working aid in navigation. The historic Reynolds Mansion may be used for group conferences and retreats, with all meals included.

Fort Frederica
Fort Frederica National Monument, administered by the National Park Service, is located on St. Simon's Island and interprets the struggle between Great Britain and Spain for domination of the New World. Fort Frederica was the focus of defense for the fledgling English colony of Georgia. The remains of the fortified settlement, established in 1736 by the founder of Georgia, Gen. James Edward Oglethorpe, include ruins of the fort, barracks, walls, moat, and several houses. The fort was established at a time when Great Britain, France and Spain all claimed the area. The fort and town fell into decline after Oglethorpe's regiment was disbanded in 1749 and a 1758 fire destroyed most of the buildings.

"A Day on the Water in Coastal Georgia" by Captain Micheal Neal
"As I walk down the dock, the sun begins to rise. Scent of the marsh fills the air, reminding me of the richness of our low country world. A new day on the water is beginning and one thing is certain: it will be a day of wonder. I have a charter trip scheduled that will take me places I’ve been before, which is always comforting, and places I’ll see for the first time, which is always exciting. […]
People sometimes ask how I know so much about the area, though I sometimes feel as if I know so little. But I have explored these waters for over a decade and been blessed to work with some of the most knowledgeable naturalists, historians, professors, and guides imaginable. I have spent more than 330 days a year for more than 14 years on our waters here in coastal Georgia. […]
After a day of exploration and discovery it is time to return my guests to their dock. It has been a day of answering questions and sharing knowledge, but also a day of learning. My guests have shared a day of their lives with me. Some have shared knowledge, some have shared experiences but all have given me something." […]
Captain Michael (Mike) Neal, owner/operator of Bull River Cruises, boater, and naturalist, has been exploring the waters of Coastal Georgia for the past 10 years.
